A Form With Its Own Rules
Kerala Nadanam draws from Kathakali's movement vocabulary but performs it in a lighter, more mobile costume. Judges at Kalolsavam know the difference, so a Mohiniyattam set with different jewellery will not hold up.
Fitting for Kathakali-Derived Movement
The footwork and body positions come from Kathakali training, which means the costume has to allow deep knee positions without riding up. We fit with those movements in mind rather than fitting for a photograph.
