Renting a Dance Costume for the First Time

Parents usually arrive at a costume studio for the first time a week before a competition, unsure what to ask for. This is what the process actually looks like, so nothing is a surprise.

Call Before You Come

The single most useful step. Tell us the item, the date and the dancer's measurements, and we will confirm on the phone whether we have it. That turns an uncertain trip into a fitting appointment, which matters more the further you are travelling.

What Happens at the Studio

We pull the sets that fit the item and the size, the dancer tries them on, and we check the fit in movement rather than standing. If ornaments are needed we match them to the costume under light. The whole visit is usually thirty to forty-five minutes for a solo item.

What It Costs

Rental runs from around ₹200 for practice wear to about ₹1,500 for a full arangetram set with jewellery, depending on the pieces and how long you keep them. Group items are cheaper per costume. We quote against your actual item rather than a price list, because duration changes it.

What You Are Responsible For

Returning on the agreed date, not washing it, and telling us about any damage. Cleaning is included and normal wear is expected. Loss or serious damage is charged, and we explain those terms at booking rather than leaving them in fine print.

Why We Don't Deliver

Every costume we have ever heard of failing on stage failed on fit. A delivered costume is an unfitted costume. That is the whole reason we ask you to come in, and it is the one part of the process we are not flexible about.

Bring to Your First Visit

  • The dancer, if at all possible
  • The exact item name and performance date
  • Measurements, if the dancer cannot come
  • Anything you already own — costume, salangai, jewellery
  • Your guru's instructions on ornaments, if any

Not sure what you need?

Call the studio and describe the item, the date and the dancer's age — we will tell you what it takes.
