When to Book a Dance Costume in Kochi
Costume availability in Kerala is not evenly spread across the year. Three windows absorb most of the demand, and if your date falls inside one, the usual advice about a week's notice does not apply.
The Three Bottlenecks
Onam week concentrates almost all kasavu and Thiruvathira demand into a few days. Kalolsavam season pulls every school in the district for the same competition items within a fortnight. Annual day season, roughly November to February, books out group and cinematic sets. Outside those windows, a week is usually enough notice.
Group Items Need the Most Lead Time
A solo costume is one piece in one size. A twenty-person group set has to be allocated from a single lot in six different sizes, and once part of that lot is gone the group cannot be matched. That is why group bookings should be made earlier than solo ones, always.
Arangetram Is Different
An arangetram date is usually fixed months ahead, so there is no reason to book late. The real constraint is fitting time: come in two to three weeks before the performance so anything that restricts movement can still be adjusted.
What Happens If You Book Late
We will not tell you a costume is available when it is not. Late in a peak window the honest answer is often "this size in this form is gone, here is what we do have." Some people can work with the alternative; if you cannot, the only fix is booking earlier next season.

Booking Timelines FAQs
- Outside peak season, about a week. For Onam a month, Kalolsavam two to three weeks, annual day four to six weeks.
- A group has to be matched from a single lot across several sizes. Once part of the lot is gone, the group can no longer be matched.
